Review: Come to me Quietly by A.L. Jackson

Synopsis:

Aleena Moore is content with her life. She has goals and dreams and an easy smile. She also has a secret she holds locked inside.
Jared Holt believes he doesn’t deserve to love or be loved. He destroys everything he touches. Haunted by the mistake that shattered his life, he’s fled from the memory of that pain.
Jared doesn’t know why he’s compelled to return, but finds himself drawn back to the place where it all began. The exact place where it ended. When he runs into his childhood best friend, Aleena’s older brother Christopher, he agrees to share Christopher and Aleena’s apartment while he looks for a place of his own.
Aleena is no longer the little girl Jared remembers from his past and evokes feelings in him he never wanted to feel again. Terrified of destroying her, he fights to keep her away. But her touch is something he can’t resist—the touch that sealed his fate.
Their pasts are intertwined and their futures uncertain. The only truths they know are the secrets they whisper in the night.

5 Stars!!

Have you ever come across an author that no matter what story they create what characters their imagination brings to life you know that the story and the characters will be beautiful?  A.L. Jackson is one of those authors for me.  I have read every story she has created and I have never been disappointed.  All her books are beautifully written with so much heart and passion poured into every page, every line, every word, and every letter.  The characters she brings to life on paper root themselves into your soul and capture your heart.  Her stories are always beautiful and always give me so much more than a story between the bindings.
Come to Me Quietly captured my heart and soul.  Jared is a beautiful and complex character.  Someone that holds so much guilt and pain your heart hurts for him.  A character that you grow to love and desperately want him to have the very best of everything even when he himself doesn’t believe he deserves to live.  Jared’s character is raw and emotional and will pull your heartstrings.  I found myself clinging to his every word and every thought wanting so badly to make him realize his worth.  His past is ugly and real and he wears his scars of his past on him.  He is a very quiet character.  He doesn’t talk about his feelings because he doesn’t feel like he deserves too but Aleena “Aly” changes everything.
–Did she know how badly I wanted to touch her?  To take a little more?  Maybe take it all?  My thoughts raced ahead, and I wondered what she’d do if I edged off the couch and laid her back on the floor.  Would she stop me?  Or would she allow me to feed off her compassion and goodness?  Would she let me wreck her?  Destroy her?  Because that was the only thing I knew how to do.
Aleena is a beautiful and pure character.  Full of innocence.  Her ability to love freely and purely was magical.  She sees the good in everyone and everything.  She accepts things for what they are and doesn’t try and change anything.  She has always loved Jared, always from afar.  Growing up together he was always her protector the one person she trusted most the one person who she never stopped thinking about, never stopped loving even after being gone for so long.  The moment Jared is thrown back into her life she knows it will never be the same.  She is no longer that little girl who felt butterflies when being around him, she is now a young woman whose desires are stronger and whose feelings have grown over the years and she wants all of him anyway she can get him and she knows that he has the absolute potential of breaking her beyond repair.
–My eyes searched hers, trying to understand, trying to make her understand.  “You said you want it to matter.”  Sadness clouded her features.  “How could it not matter with you?”
Their connection is undeniable and powerful.  Deep inside Jared wants her but knows she deserves so much better, so much more.  Deserves more than he is able to give.  Aly has always loved Jared the all consuming deep emotional type of love that never fades only grows with time and she wants whatever he is willing to give.  She holds her own secret but until Jared is willing to talk about the past and do away with the guilt that he carried on his shoulders her secret remains her own.  She can’t force him to love her and she can’t force him to stay.   She knows he won’t stay but will hold on as tight as she can until the day he isn’t there anymore.
“It isn’t worth it if it doesn’t hurt a little.”
Their relationship is hidden from the people Aly loves the most and all she wants to do is scream it from the rooftops that her one and only love is there in her arms and she loves him with all of her being.  Time has passed and Jared has stayed because he can’t pull himself to leave even though he knows he will destroy her, he will break her, because everything he feels that everything he touches he destroys.
“I never wanted you to see me like I was tonight,” he said, “but it was inevitable….all of this is…inevitable.  And still I stay because I don’t fucking know how to walk away from you…..”
One startled visit, one moment in time changes everything.  A single fear of igniting all the triggers that will have him come crashing further down threatens and Aly’s world is ripped right out from underneath her…..again.  She can’t make him stay, make him face his past head on and fight the demons that live within his soul.  She can’t make him love himself the way she loves him and she can’t make him see the beauty within himself that she can see.  After everything comes full circle and his past is further thrown in his face will Jared stay and love Aly?  Or will he leave again knowing she deserves more, knowing that if he stays he will completely destroy the beautiful girl that means the world to him?

AL Jackson you outdid yourself with this one.  Your imagination and characters know no bounds and I was touched deadly to my core with Jared and Aly’s story.  It was emotional and tragic.  From the very first word to the final period on the page I was captivated by them, I couldn’t look away.  Come to Me Quietly was simple beauty placed on paper and should be shared and enjoyed by every romance genre book lover out there.  Wonderful job.
